Job Description

Do you enjoy working with kids? Are you curious about technology and excited by the chance to help young people build confidence?

We’re looking for a warm, dependable, and energetic Code Sensei to join our team. Code Senseis guide children through coding projects, help them work through challenges, and create an environment where learning feels fun.

You do not need to be an expert programmer or a certified teacher. We’ll provide training, curriculum, and ongoing support. What matters most is that you connect well with kids, communicate clearly, and are willing to keep learning alongside them.

Pay is reviewed after 3 months of employment. As a small, locally owned business, we may not be able to match the starting wages offered by large corporations, but we believe this position offers value beyond the hourly rate.

Being a Code Sensei is an opportunity to gain meaningful experience working with kids, technology, problem-solving, communication, and leadership. We regularly provide letters of recommendation and serve as professional references for Senseis who have demonstrated strong performance and reliability. While a part-time job may not make anyone rich, the skills, experience, and relationships you build at Code Ninjas can absolutely benefit you in college, internships, future employment, and whatever comes next.

What You’ll Do

As a Code Sensei, you will:

  • Welcome students and help them feel comfortable and included
  • Guide children through our coding curriculum and project-based activities
  • Ask thoughtful questions that help students solve problems independently
  • Encourage creativity, persistence, and confidence
  • Keep students engaged while maintaining a calm, positive learning environment
  • Track student progress and share helpful updates with teammates and families
  • Assist with camps, clubs, birthday parties, workshops, or special events as needed
  • Help keep the center clean, organized, and ready for students
  • Learn new tools, games, and technologies with support from our team

You May Be a Great Fit If You

  • Genuinely enjoy working with children
  • Are patient, encouraging, and able to explain ideas in different ways
  • Show up on time and follow through on commitments
  • Can balance fun with clear expectations
  • Feel comfortable using computers and learning new software
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents, and coworkers
  • Respond to challenges with curiosity and a problem-solving mindset
  • Are available during [required days and hours]
  • Experience with programming, education, tutoring, summer camps, robotics, gaming, or youth programs is helpful, but it is not required.

Helpful Technical Experience

Familiarity with any of the following is a plus but not required:

  • Scratch or block-based coding
  • JavaScript, Python, Lua, Java, or C#
  • Roblox, Minecraft, Unity, or game development
  • Robotics, electronics, or 3D design
  • Computer science coursework

Please note: We care more about your ability to help young people learn and create a welcoming and fun environment for our ninjas!

What We Offer

Paid training and ongoing coaching

  • A structured curriculum and the tools needed to succeed
  • A fun, creative workplace
  • Opportunities to strengthen your teaching, leadership, and technical skills
  • The chance to make a visible difference in children’s confidence and growth
  • Advancement opportunities, flexible scheduling, and bonus opportunities

What Success Looks Like

A successful Code Sensei is someone students look forward to seeing. They help kids feel capable without simply giving them the answers. They are attentive, reliable, and engaged—and they work with the rest of the team to make every student’s experience a positive one.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16
  • Must be able to work 1-2 nights per week (until 8 PM) and Saturdays.
  • Must be able to pass any required background screening
  • Must have reliable transportation to our location.
